Bahir Dar is the lake side city, situated on the southern shore of Lake Tana, the largest lake in Ethiopia.
The lake is the source of Blue Nile River with its spectacular water fall TIS ISAT[water that smokes].
The lake also harboured more than 37 islands that are scattered over the lake having more than 20 churches and monasteries of immense historical and cultural values. These churches and monasteries are well known for there impressive treasures and mural paintings having religious significance.
